Larry 55, Mankato, MN died Saturday, July 11, 1992, at his home from cancer.
He was born Jan 5, 1937, in Brainerd to Arvid E. and Bertha M. (Cain) Anderson. He married Penny Jo Engelhart on Aug 12, 1961, in Brainerd. He received his bachelor of Science and master of Science degress in geography at St Cloud State University, and his doctorate degree at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, and the University of Ontario in London, Ontario. He taught at Paris Gibson Junior High School in Great Falls, Mont., moved to Oshkosh, Wis., was professor of geography at the University of Wisconsin, and then moved to Makato and was professor of geography at the University. He had been at Mankato State University. He had been at Mankato State University for 23 years retiring in June 1992, because of poor health.
He was a noted scholar on communal societies and had many friends anong the Amish near Utica and the Hutterian Brethren in Minnesota, South Dakato, North Dakato, Montana and Canada. He was a consultant with the British Broadcasting System on a ducumentary to released this fall on Hutterite colony -- "How to Get To Heaven in Montana."
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, a deacon, sunday school teacher, Christian School Board committee member, faculty adviser to Campus Bible Fellowship, board member of National Communal Studies Association American Geography Society, Journal of Geography and Alpha-Omega Fraternity at St Cloud.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Trevor and Forrest both of Mankato; a daughter, Cara Jo, North Mankato; mother, Bertha Anderson, Brainerd; five brothers, Donald, Dale, E., Robert G. Arnold D. all of Brainerd, and Clinton L., Minneapolis; and a sister, Mrs Henry (Judith) Witta, Minneapolis.
His father died earlier.
Services will be 10 am Wednesday at Grace Baptist Church in Mankato with the Rev John Michel Officiating Gravesides services at 4:30 pm at the Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd. Friends may call from 4-8 pm Tuesday at the Mankato Mortuary, 1001 North Riverfront Drive in Mankato. If so desired, memorials may be given to the Grace Baptist Church in Mankato or the donor's choice.
